The CircSmeltSteel journey has officially begun! Our consortium came together on 6 July 2026 for the CircSmeltSteel Kick-off Meeting, marking the official start of four years of collaboration towards more circular and low-carbon steel production. Representatives from 25 partner organisations across 7 European countries met to align on a shared vision: unlocking the potential of secondary materials while maintaining the high quality and performance required for tomorrow’s steel products. Hosted by Project Coordinator Alexander Halwax (K1-MET), the kick-off meeting focused on turning the project vision into action. Partners aligned on priorities for the coming months, discussed the interactions between the work packages, and established a shared understanding of how the consortium will collaborate throughout the next four years. Beyond the agenda, the kick-off was about something even more important: bringing together experts from research, industry, and technology to build a common vision. Innovation happens when knowledge is shared, ideas are challenged, and partners work towards the same goal. Over the coming months, our consortium will focus on: ♻️ advancing circular use of metallurgical by-products 🔥 developing low-carbon iron and steelmaking solutions 💻 integrating digital tools and data-driven process optimisation 🤝 collaborating with other European initiatives to maximise impact and accelerate innovation A sincere thank you to European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) for funding this project under Grant Agreement No. 101294187 as well as all partners for the inspiring discussions, commitment, and collaborative spirit. This is only the beginning, and we are excited to share our progress with you. 📢 Follow CircSmeltSteel to learn more about our project and consortium as we work towards a more sustainable future for the European steel industry.
