As part of our ongoing partner spotlight series, we continue to introduce the organizations that make up our consortium. Each partner brings unique expertise and plays an important role in helping us achieve the project’s objectives
Meet AIT Austrian Institute of Technology
Within CircSmeltSteel, AIT Austrian Institute of Technology plays the role of project partner and contributes to the project with its expertise in data management, process modelling and control.
The AIT Austrian Institute of Technology is Austria’s largest research and technology organization with more than 1,600 employees working on the key infrastructure issues of the future. The AIT focuses on the two interlinked research priorities of “sustainable and resilient infrastructures”, particularly in the areas of energy, transport and health, and the “digital transformation of industry and society”, working closely with industry and clients from public institutions. Research & development is the central driver of innovation for industry, the economy and society, secures jobs and prosperity and thus strengthens Austria as a business location.
Within CircSmeltSteel, AIT team from the Complex Dynamic Systems (CDS) unit at the Center for Vision, Automation & Control (VAC), contributes to:
These activities reflect CDS’s key expertise. Also, AIT’s contributions to the project include:
📌 WP3 – Digital platform development and data handling: Design of data models with semantic relations for lab-scale and industrial-scale processes
📌 WP7 – Digital downstream processing for optimal steel product properties Development of process model and an advanced process controller for annealing line and for hot rolling
We are excited to work together with AIT and all project partners to advance SO5 Combined physics- and data-based modelling for the development of reduced order models (ROMs) for level 2 automation for the downstream processes in hot-rolling and final annealing and SO6 Digital platform for data acquisition, handling, model implementation and sharing, and use for continuous learning of level 2 automation models.
